Oil Tips:1. You can easily use almost any kind of oil to burn a wick or a floater, even common household oils such as olive, soy or sunflower oil, provide a steady and full burn. 2. All pure oils will float above water and can be used in large vessels filled with water, ...First fill the vessel with the desired amount of water and then add the oil in. 3. When using water as a base for oil the water can be colored beautifully using water paint or food coloring. 4. Colored flame oils can be mixed with each other creating your own nuance and customized shades.
Note: colored flame oils do not float on water due their unique chemical composition. Note: when using water, oil and a floating wick always make sure the wicks end isn't in any contact with the water (it is recommended to simmer 2/3 of the wick in the oil).
When using a large clear glass vessel you can either use our colored oils which are seen through the vessel and create a unique colorful effect, or simply fill the vessel with water and then add in the oil which will float above it. This technique is both cost effective and also allows different variations of colors mixed with the water.
Here are four easy steps to create a colorful oil lamp in a large glass vessel:
1. Fill your vessel with the desired amount of water. 2. Choose a color and add it into the water (you can use either water colors or food coloring). 3. Add pure paraffin or other household oil (the oil layer must be at least 1.5' high).
4. Gently float a floating wick on the oil and light the wick carefully (it is recommended to simmer atleast 2/3 of the wick in the oil).
